Emerging Leaders Summit

May 4-6, 2007

“What exactly is Emerging Leaders? Who is it for?

What is my role in this process?”  Great Questions!

Here are the basics on the PNW District

Emerging Leaders Program:

Purpose: To encourage, and/or confirm God’s calling and gifting in Emerging Leaders’ lives.  This is not an ordinary leadership program, but is for those leaders who are feeling a tug on their hearts toward full-time ministry of some sort.  Whether that calling is faint or strong, para-church, local church or missions, young or old, this program is targeted especially for them.

Target Audience  Each Emerging Leader must be a junior in high school or older. Although many students will participate, this is not a youth program.  Many who attend are in high school or college; still others who attend are making a career change later in life!  Our target audience isn’t decided by age, but by calling.  To participate in this process, a pastoral recommendation is required.  For smaller churches, this may be a lay person who is leading/mentoring them.

Roles (CHURCHES ROLE/DISTRICT’S ROLE)  The Emerging Leaders Process is one designed to come along side the local church.  We hope to assist THE LOCAL CHURCH as it mentor s these future leaders.  We ask for mentors to attend the summit as well so they can use it as just one more step in the mentoring process.

Process/Event We do host an annual summit in the spring but Emerging Leaders is meant to be a process and not a one time event.  In addition to the summit, we as a district office usually contact the Emerging Leader at least twice a year by mail with encouragement, a challenge or a resource.   We also hope to assist in the mentoring process by helping network your EL with others in the district who are in their interested ministry area.  That may include introducing EL’s to a church planter or interested ministry area, helping them find an internship, an opportunity to staff a district event and more!  Our hope is that our resources may compliment those in the local church.

Spring Summit  The district hosts a summit each spring.  We ask that at least one mentor per church attend with the Emerging Leaders.  We ask the EL to pay 1/3 of the cost ($30), the local church 1/3 ($40) and the district 1/3 ($40).  In 2006, this summit will be held May 5-7 in Olympia, WA.

Our Vision:

Encouraging and/or confirming God’s calling and gifting in Emerging Leaders’ lives.
